Passage 04- Training at Kibagabaga

I would spend two full days with a group of 13 people at a church located in Kibagabaga.  It was located in a tall building off of a busy road.  We climbed several flights of stairs to reach the church.  The view from the church window was pretty awesome.

We experienced a joyous worship service prior to me coming to the front to teach.  Throughout Africa, I have come to know that music is a very important part of their culture.  Something that Christian fellowships embrace full heartedly.

I would teach the same topics here that I had taught the previous three days at Remera, although not in the same order.  This group was also intrigued by my teaching on “Listening to the Voice of God” and continued to ask questions about it for clarification once I had finished presenting it to them.  It has always been exciting to me to know that the Creator of the Heavens and Earth desires to have an intimate relationship with us by way of conversation.  We are His children, so it does make sense.  But it is still very remarkable.

I had the class break up into small groups each day and then designate a person to share the important points of learning that came out from their discussions.  Statistics show that only 5% is actually retained from listening to a lecture, while 50% is retained when the subject is discussed.

My ministry is called “Bible Application Ministries” for a reason and I emphasize retention and application of everything that I teach.  I give life examples to help them to understand and become clear as to how to apply what they have been taught.  75% retention comes from the practice of doing.  90% retention comes when you teach others.

Our second day concluded around 3:00 pm on Saturday afternoon.  I didn’t really say “goodbye” to this group because I was planning to teach them again on Sunday afternoon.  At the time, I had no idea that I would never see these people again.

Around 8:00 pm on Saturday evening I went for a walk to have my daily talk time with my Lord Jesus Christ.  I prayed about many things.  Then I brought up the subject of coronavirus.  “Do I need to be concerned about this?” I asked.  Shortly thereafter my answer came.

A stranger asked if he could walk with me.  I said, “Sure.  Come join me.”

We talked about God for a while.  Then he brought up coronavirus.  “I’m not afraid of it,” he told me.  “If I die from the virus, I know that I still have eternal life with God.”  I invited him to attend the church fellowship where I was scheduled to teach the next morning.

“You aren’t going to be able to teach tomorrow,” he told me.

“What do you mean?  Why not?” I asked him.

“They made an announcement a short while ago.  All church gatherings are banned for tomorrow due to coronavirus.  In fact, churches will not be able to gather for the next 14 days,” He replied.

I was in shock.  I didn’t want to believe him.  I brought him to the home of my host and told James what he had said.  James had just heard it also.  It was confirmed.  I would not be teaching at church tomorrow morning.  We would not be able to have our third meeting with the Kibagabaga group on Sunday afternoon.  And my remaining three days with the Kabuga church and final day with the Remera church were also canceled.  With one short news break, the ministry plans that I had planned and covered in prayer for many months had now come to a screeching halt.

Every place that the sole of your foot will tread on, I have given to you, just as I said to Moses.

From the wilderness and this Lebanon even to the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun will be your territory.
No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you and I will not forsake you.
“Be strong and courageous, for you will cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them.
Only be strong and very courageous, being careful to do according to all the Torah that Moses my servant commanded you. Do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you will have success wherever you go.
